Beneath The Palms

It goes without saying, that shopping is more than just a pastime. Though its mechanics have changed over the span of last decade – partially due to the rise of new online landscapes and the undisputed need for convenience – there is nothing that taps into emotional experience quite like an in-store one. In a generation of reduced attention spans and a continuous sense of urgency, the most appealing factor shopping has is the distractions it comes with. There enter, destination shopping, something New York isn’t lacking. Walk through SoHo for a collection for a span of high and low boutiques while popping into cafes for lunch; head uptown and you’ll find flocks of tourists congregating in front of decadent windows display paired with a Central Park backdrop; and when you make your way downtown, you’ll find hidden pockets that span beyond the norm of retail experience and service.

Nestled on the edge of the Hudson, under towering palm trees, you’ll find Brookfield Place. Once known to me as the old stomping grounds of my past life in finance and tech, this location has become a pleasant distraction from the realities that tower around it. From an afternoon coffee, and crudité and cocktails at Hudson Eats, to designer handbag at Gucci, the ultimate parfumerie at Hermes, and the destination within a destination that is Saks Fifth Avenue, you can luxuriate without the overwhelming bustle.
