fried padrón peppers

NEW INGREDIENT. I discovered padrón peppers while eating my way through Barcelona, one tapas at a time last September. Basically, I would place an order of fried peppers everywhere we went, and tell my best friend Ericka that we could split a plate even though we both knew that I was just going to devour the entire order myself. I had been craving them lately so when I found a package of organic padróns at the Whole Foods Union Square location over the weekend, I had to remake the classic fried peppers that I had in Barcelona.

Sure, some of you might be cringing at the thought of eating a pepper, but don't knock it till you try it. Padrón peppers are mildly piquant, and when fried (or roasted) in some neutral oil and tossed in salt flakes -- a must -- they make for a great snack. I love eating these on their own with a post-work glass of wine, or as an addition to a multitude of tapas.

I'm curious...would you try these???
