ten things
Can't do a list of 10 things without paying tribute to one of the most notable teen dramas of the late-90s. What was more memorable, Heath's brilliant smirks (sigh) or Julia's delivery of 10 things sans midriff?
Well, nonetheless I now digress to a much more present-day "drama" like... what 10 things you should try this fall. The options are endless, and as the as seasons come and go, it seems that the decisions between investment and trend-driven pieces cloud the mind in judgement. So I've made it easy for you by taking the liberty to choose 10 things, you won't be able to resist incorporating into your personal style this fall.
1. METALLIC ACCENTS | 2. CRIMSON | 3. COOKING | 4. GRAPHICS | 5. WIDE BRIM HATS | 6. MUSTARD | 7. FUR | 8. WHITE TEE | 9. SKIN PREP | 10. LEATHER
METALLIC ACCENTS. You can find this trend almost everywhere, but only recently have we been seeing it on the streets in something other than in a clutch form. Phillip Lim knows how to make metallic look so refined while skipping the gaudy, but if you're looking for a more subtle accent, try just adding that midas touch at the toes.
OXBLOOD CRIMSON TIDE. Deep enough to go with your darker wardrobe, but still vibrant enough to complement some of those post-summer pieces. I've only recently started really applying darker lippy, since the chubby stick is kind of my end-all, but adding a little vamp with a laid back outfit helps complete an otherwise casual look, and plus, it always helps show that you're putting in extra effort.
GOOD & WHOLE. So it's inevitable that I add something food-related into this post. What's most important to me is cooking whole foods. And since I always get requests about what cookbooks I occasionally browse through, I thought I'd share one of my current favorites.
GET GRAPHIC. All over the streets of Paris, London, New York we've seen as girls rocked graphics from obi-wan to anything they could find to print on a t-shirt, really. But, what makes this trend so great? Well, I'll leave it to Leandra on this one.
WIDE BRIM HATS. Nothing says "I'm too busy for this " like a wide-brimmed hat and a nice large pair of sunnies. Giving the illusion that small faces are big, and big faces are small, wide brims fedoras are synonymous to fall. Pairing them with anything from ethereal dresses to skinny jeans and boots, the wide brim is the ultimate Sunday brunch, picnic, and fall getaway piece - triple duty.
MUSTARD. We watched as the Emmys rolled out red carpet yellow fever looks all night, but if you're anything like me, yellow may not be your first color of choice. So rather than going all upside-down-cupcake-dress on you, I'll just let you know that these heels are killer sweet, even for a girl with very little tolerance for such a bright color.
FUR. The arrival of fall would not be complete without fur. Try adding a new throw to your existing bedding to freshen up your home. And when it comes to your overall look, a fur vest is usual the go-to.
THE WHITE TEE. Well, this isn't really a trend, but you can't deny the fact that finding the perfect white tee is harder than you think.
FACE PREP. If you're just as health and skin conscious as I am, you're probably already thinking about winter (or at least thinking up new ways to hydrate your skin). Fresh makes some of my favorite products, like the Soy Cleanse (must) or the SUGAR lip collection. My skin falls between dry and normal, so I like to make sure I'm hydrating. There's really no better way to spend an evening after work - face in Fresh face oil, and a good read.
THE LEATHER LOOK. Leather pieces are readily available at a bargain prices - i.e. Zara, H&M, etc. etc. But there's no denying that Maje makes the most trend-conscious, luxe leather pieces. Everyone needs a good leather investment piece, but that could just as easily by said about leather-detailed tribal jackets.
